Chester Curling Club hosting 38 Under-15 curling teams for Greenspiel The Greenspiel, the Nova Scotia Under 15 curling championship will descend on the Chester Curling club from Saturday, March 3rd through Monday, the 5th. Play will spill onto Lunenburg ice to accommodate the 38 teams, 23 on the men's side and 15 on the women's. The south shore contingent includes three women's teams from the host Chester club, skipped by Sydney Buell, Cassie Cocks and Mary Fay. Madison Dahl and Olivia Gaetz will represent Bridgewater; Sarah Mosher will skip her Lunenburg team. There are four Chester teams on the men's side: Graeme Weagle, Ben Baker, Adam Cocks and Benjamin Dunn. Spencer DeMone will represent Lunenburg. The Bridgewater teams are Connor Fancy and Morgan Nauss. New champions will be crowned on Monday afternoon as the Brooke Demone and Chris Abraham teams have moved up to Under-18 play."Chester is aiming to host a great event." says Chair Beth Atherton, "We look forward to welcoming teams from right across Nova Scotia - from Yarmouth to Sydney and all points in between. Can't wait to see you all." Play begins on Saturday morning and continues through Sunday in both Chester and Lunenburg. Art Classes at DesBrisay Museum Dabbling in Art A series of art classes for youth at DesBrisay Museum, Bridgewater 902-543-4033. Age 8-12: Designed for kids age 8-12, our first project will be a bird sculpture, which will take place over 3 Saturday afternoon sessions - March 31, April 7, April 15, from 1:30-2:30pm. All materials will be supplied, however children will require a large shirt or apron to cover their clothesŠthe projects do get messy! The cost for this project is $15, and children must be registered in advance. Age 12-16: Designed for older kids, this project will be a large butterfly sculpture. It will take place over 3 Saturday afternoons session, March 31, April 7 and April 15, from 2:45pm-4:15pm. All materials will be supplied, however students should wear a large shirt or apron over their clothes. The cost for this project is $20. Instructor, Wendy Oickle, is a graduate from Niagara College of Applied Arts with a degree in Theatrical Stage and Costume Design. She has appeared on stage in a children's theatrical performance of Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves, as well as on an Ontario based Television Comedy show. She has explored drawing , painting and sculpting in the United States , Ontario and the Maritimes. Wendy has worked with children in a variety of art exploration settings from dance, to sculpting and painting.
